Austin is one of the fastest-growing sports markets in Texas, anchored by the University of Texas Longhorns — one of the most valuable athletic programs in college sports. The Moody Center opened in 2022 and immediately became one of the busiest mid-sized arenas in America, hosting Longhorns basketball and major sporting events. Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium is the home of Longhorns football and holds over 100,000 for SEC games — Texas's move to the SEC in 2024 elevated the program to the most competitive conference in college football. Q2 Stadium hosts Austin FC, the city's MLS expansion club that debuted in 2021, and has quickly built one of the most electric atmospheres in American soccer with its supporter group Verde.
