Crypto.com Arena is downtown Los Angeles’s flagship indoor venue, the home of the Lakers, Kings and Sparks, and one of the busiest arenas in North America. The building sits at 1111 South Figueroa Street, anchored into the L.A. Live entertainment district across from the Peacock Theater and the Microsoft Theater, with the Convention Center a block south and the 110 Freeway a five-minute drive away. It opened in October 1999 as STAPLES Center, took on the Crypto.com Arena name in a twenty-year deal announced in November 2021 and formally adopted just before Christmas of that year, and remains the only NBA arena in the modern era to host two teams at the same level. AEG owns and operates the building, with the Lakers, Clippers, Kings and Sparks as long-term anchor tenants. The Clippers’ move to the new Intuit Dome in Inglewood ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season trimmed the calendar but the room still turns over from basketball to hockey to a Grammy stage often inside the same week, with the rest of the year split between major arena tours, UFC numbered cards, WWE pay-per-views, family ice shows and championship boxing. Outside the main entrance the Kobe and Gianna Bryant statue and the larger Lakers Walk of Stars set the tone the moment fans hit the plaza. For Angelenos this is the centre of the city’s pro sports identity, the room every visiting headliner has to clear before a North American tour is considered complete, and the building that has hosted more Grammy Awards ceremonies than any other venue in the world.
