The Detroit Pistons trace their roots to the Fort Wayne Pistons in 1941 and relocated to Detroit in 1957. Three championships define the franchise — 1989 and 1990 with the "Bad Boys" (Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman, and coach Chuck Daly), whose physical defensive style redefined the game, and 2004 with a team-first unit that upset the Los Angeles Lakers. Joe Dumars, the face of the franchise off the court for decades, was known as one of the game's great gentlemen despite playing alongside the Bad Boys. After years in the suburban Palace of Auburn Hills, the Pistons moved to Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit in 2017, sharing the District Detroit venue with the NHL's Red Wings.
