The Anaheim Ducks entered the NHL in 1993 as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, owned at the time by The Walt Disney Company and named for the popular family film franchise. The club reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2003, and four years later — under owner Henry Samueli and stars like Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Teemu Selanne, and Ryan Getzlaf — captured the franchise first Stanley Cup in 2007, becoming the first California team to win the championship. Honda Center, the Ducks home in Anaheim since 1993, anchors a growing arena district just south of the 5 Freeway and adjacent to Angel Stadium. After a long playoff run from 2006 to 2018 led by Getzlaf and Corey Perry, the franchise entered a rebuild that has reshaped its roster around Trevor Zegras, Mason McTavish, Leo Carlsson, and Frank Vatrano, who are starting to push the team back toward postseason relevance.
