About the Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets relocated from New Jersey in 2012 and play at Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn. The franchise has attracted marquee stars and built one of the NBA's most recognizable brands.

The Brooklyn Nets originated as the New Jersey Americans in 1967 in the ABA and joined the NBA in 1976 after winning two ABA championships. After decades in New Jersey as the Nets, the franchise relocated to Brooklyn in 2012 and opened Barclays Center, a state-of-the-art arena connected to Atlantic Terminal in the heart of Brooklyn. The move transformed the franchise's profile overnight — the black-and-white minimalist brand, the Brooklyn energy, and the subsequent recruitment of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden made the Nets one of the NBA's most-discussed teams of the early 2020s. Barclays Center sits steps from the subway and hosts major concerts and boxing events in addition to basketball, making it one of New York's premier entertainment venues. The rivalry with the Knicks for New York basketball supremacy draws intense local interest.
