The Orlando Magic reached the NBA Finals twice (1995, 2009) and were home to the dominant Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway era. They play at Kia Center in downtown Orlando.
The Orlando Magic joined the NBA in 1989 and quickly became one of the league's most exciting teams, winning the NBA lottery in 1992 to draft Shaquille O'Neal and in 1993 to add Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway. The Shaq-Penny duo took Orlando to the NBA Finals in 1995 before O'Neal departed for Los Angeles. A second Finals appearance came in 2009, led by Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis, and Jameer Nelson. Kia Center (formerly Amway Center), opened in 2010 and renovated in 2023, is one of the NBA's most technologically advanced arenas and is rated among the league's best game experiences. Orlando is a major American market with a passionate fan base, and the Magic compete in the Southeast Division. The young roster featuring Paolo Banchero, the 2022 first overall pick, is building toward the franchise's next competitive era.
