The St. Louis Blues joined the NHL in 1967 as part of the original expansion and spent 52 years as one of hockey's great heartbreaks — a consistent playoff team that never won the Cup — until the 2019 season, when the last-place-at-New-Year's Blues rallied behind Brayden Schenn, Ryan O'Reilly, Pat Maroon, and goaltender Jordan Binnington to win the franchise's first Stanley Cup. The anthem "Gloria" by Laura Branigan became the Blues' rallying cry during that run and is now permanently associated with St. Louis hockey culture. Enterprise Center, opened in 1994 as Kiel Center, is a 19,000-seat arena in downtown St. Louis shared with the AHL's Rivermen historically and host to some of the NHL's most passionate Midwestern crowds. The Blues' rivalry with the Chicago Blackhawks — a Central Division clash between two Original-era franchises — is one of the most heated in the Midwest.
